WHO AM I?
Hi I’m Mimi, a UX / UI Designer based in New York City.
I like helping people. I like design. I like being the mind behind helping people through thoughtful design.
Currently, I work at Message Agency (Acquired by Tech Impact). A creative agency exclusively working with mission-driven organizations such as universities, non-profits, foundations etc. We are a small but mighty team which means I juggle many hats, clients and projects at once.
Before this, I worked as an Interior Designer in buildings like the World Trade Center. I received my Bachelor’s in Interior Design, with a minor in Psychology, from Iowa State University. After graduating, I landed a job at Ware Malcomb, a top 20 architecture firm at the time. My goal was to improve people’s daily lives; In this role I transformed accessible layouts, 3D models and material boards into physical spaces that reduced both physical and cognitive load.
While the interior design industry gave me creativity, as a career I was missing fullfillment. I found UX’s continuous empathy and human-centered approach aligning better with my process and values.
Before making the transition, I spent time solo backpacking across Southeast Asia. An experience that gave me the clarity and confidence to switch careers. Soon after, I completed a UX bootcamp and built on my existing visual and spatial foundation to develop strong UI skills.
Working at Tech Impact for four years now, I have lead or supported on all stages of a product lifecycle and consider not just design but also on how to drive business value. Over the course of my professional time, I’ve worked with over 250 clients including Chipotle, L’Oreal, Verizon Wireless, Harvard and Yale University.
Outside my 9-5 you can find me picking up random hobbies, embracing all NYC has to offer, or planning my next international trip. I have an exploratory soul with a curious mind and adaptable abilities. Always looking to work or connect with like or unlike minded individuals.
